In 1911, $25,000 dollars is appropriated to the US Navy for the purchase of three airplanes and training for three Naval Officers, LT Theodore Ellyson, LTJG John Towers and LT John Rodgers. The three pioneers soon become the first Naval Aviators proudly wearing the exclusive wings of gold. These legends of the past firmly ensconced the traditions of what makes up carrier aviation today.
